My boyfriend* and I moved in together at the beginning of the month. We've been together for a little over a year, and this is our first time living with a significant other. So, how's it been?

Well, it hasn't been all sunshine and snuggles โ€” but I didn't expect that. In fact, I think expecting that would have been really unhealthy. But overall, we both have commented on how great the whole cohabitation business has been thus far. Yes, there's been some fights, and we're still learning how to get the space we need to cool off after a disagreement โ€” but the disagreements are overshadowed by how much fun it is to wake up next to each other in the morning and how nice it is to cook meals together (when I don't have a crap work schedule).

The cats...are a different story. My cat (Laika, age 5) is lazy and shy and very much set in her ways. (Takes after her mom, naturally.) Boyfriend's cat (Zoya AKA: Baby Z) is a kitten. This had led to a lot of Clashing Cats. Laika wants to be left alone, Zoya wants to play โ€” so Zoya thinks it's a good idea to latch onto Laika's back to see what happens. This usually results in Laika hiding under the bed for hours, which makes me sad.

It hasn't been all bad, however. Sometimes, the cats end up like this:

The house is still getting set up. We still need some more furniture, and I still have a few boxes to unpack and things to get rid of โ€” side note: maybe I should unload some of my books through GT? โ€” but overall, I'm happy! It's exciting! Our house is lovely and sweet, and I'm not so miffed that sometimes boyfriend doesn't see my notes asking him to clean the litter box since it's his turn. It's definitely a learning process, and definitely more different than any living situation I've had before. I'm excited to see where this takes us โ€” but maybe I won't be so blind to all of boyfriend's dirty socks in a few months. Who knows? Ask me then and see how I feel.

Share your cohabitation stories, horrible or sweet or otherwise! I also love unsolicited advice!

* I think I need a nickname for my boyfriend. I don't feel comfortable outing him like I do myself here, so I don't even think his initials are fair game. Hmmm...
