I just got back from dinner with my mom and grandpa, and I have some mulled wine going in the crockpot. I improvised with what I had (inspired by i am calm’s post) so I ended up doing a bottle of cabernet with two sliced up tangerines, a diced apple (piñata variety, somewhat similar to cripp’s pink) some honey, a dash of brown sugar, a few slices of raw fresh ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. It smells pretty good so far!
Dinner was had at a nice steakhouse here in town- all three of us ended up ordering their Thanksgiving prix-fixe menu which was turkey breast with cranberry sauce, gravy, apple sausage stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes, and twice baked potatoes with spring onion and bacon. It was all really tasty, but after hearing their a la carte selections (lobster tail with scampi butter and kobe ribeye) I kind of wished I’d gone that route. Oh, and dessert was pumpkin cheesecake with a ginger snap sesame seed crust. Really really good.
My mom seemed happy to be out and about, especially considering she didn’t have to cook some big spread, and my grandfather looked and seemed to feeling good- he’s 83 and in excellent health, but I worry, because that’s a thing I do. All things considered, a nice peaceful Thanksgiving. Now it’s raining, so I’m going to sip my mulled wine and watch some holiday movies with my kitty cat.
What’s everyone else up to? How’s your holiday been?
