Hey guys, it seems like forever since I've been here. My last post was about leaving China and I haven't really been on since then. I spent a little over a week in Sofia, Bulgaria, visiting my family and introducing my boyfriend to the place I was born. Честита Баба Марта to any Bulgarians reading this.
It was a really great time, sort of rediscovering the city through my boyfriend's eyes. I got to spend a lot of time with my half-sister and really getting to know her. She's 10 years older than me and an academic. The last time I saw her in person was five years ago. I feel like we're finally at a place where we can relate to one another intellectually and in terms of our experiences living in different countries. I was cool.
I've been back in Canada for about a week now and it's been nice, but weird. Everything is so familiar, but at the same time I'm having a hard time relating to people. I feel so out-of-the-loop culturally. I'm trying not to talk about China too much, because I know how annoying that can be, but what else can I talk about? Anyways, I just finished Orange is the New Black, so maybe that will open up my repertoire of pop culture discussions for 2013.
And because I don't want this post to be totally worthless to anyone who bothered finishing it, here's a cool Google Plug-In that turns parts of any text you're reading into a different language to allow you to practice your vocabulary. I've got it set to Russian right now and I'm really enjoying it.
