So The Fader has put out their "Best of" lists for 2014, and among the many lists is their best for longform article of the year. They did include some great essays, such as Roxane Gay's "Why I Am A Bad Feminist", but I noticed a pointed absence of some other excellent longform reads like Ta -Nahisi Coates "The Case for Reparations" and Melissa Moore's "My Evil Dad: Life as a Serial Killer's Daughter". I know that "Best of" lists tend to come with limitations; after all MN's "Grape-Gate" was addressed by the New York Times as being misunderstood because "The recipes were not intended to be traditional, popular, or fully representative of the state's traditions". But what gives? Why even put out a list when leaving out poignant pieces that helped shape the year?
So let's have a do-over. What would you put on a list of best long form articles you've read this year?
