(I almost titled this “All Alone!” but that seemed sad)

I’m all alone in the lab right now and it is so blissful that I don’t even know what to do. We normally have 3 grad students, 2 postdocs, 1 lab manager, 1 visiting researcher, and the PI in the lab. The PI spends a lot of time in his office, and most of the rest of us are in and out to go to various facilities during the day. So, normally, there are like 2-4 people in the lab at the same time.

I like all my lab mates, but I’m a huge introvert and also easily distracted by noises/movement/etc, so this is pretty ideal. However, this summer, we have added 3 summer students. They have no research background, so they need everything explained, which contributes to general noise. Additionally, there seems to be a budding romance*

Additionally, we got a new piece of equiment, and 2 guys have been here since Tuesday installing it and training my boss and the visiting researcher. Also, it seems like the regular people have been in the lab more.

All of the sudden, everyone left. I don’t know where they went, but I’m all alone in the lab just enjoying the silence. It’s beautiful!

*yes, I’ve been following some of your tips. They were talking about a concert, and I was like “Oh, are y’all going together?”
