Can we talk about getting off of SSRIs?

I’ve been on Paxil for about 14 years now and I’m kind of grumpy about it. I got put on it as a teenager, back before stuff started coming out about why its not a great thing to give teenagers.

I honestly, don’t think its been doing much for me for the last few years, but every time I try to get off of it, (under supervision of a psychiatrist) I have really terrible nausea. (Mind you, I have terrible nausea about a lot of things these days.) I’ve tried going down by tiny amounts. I’ve tried going up on another anti depressant at the same time. The general theory I’ve heard is that my body is just so attuned to the paxil at this point, that changing it gets me really messed up.

Right now they are recommending that I wait till I’m in a less stressful/more stable place in life (instead of last semester of grad school). But honestly, I can’t guarantee that the future is going to be less stressful, and I hate feeling stuck on this.

Does anyone have experience/wisdom about this to share?
