I’m not much of a drinker, but I love candy with the pure, unending devotion of a 7-year-old. So maybe once or twice a year — when I need a pick-me-up after a bad week or it’s my birthday or goddammit, I just want good candy — I splurge on something that’s ridiculously delicious but way too expensive (not to mention tooth rotting) to justify very often.

I love a good box of See’s Candy, but for the most part it’s all about the gummy. My go-tos:

  • Albanese chocolate-covered gummy bears. Perhaps the greatest food ever invented. I much prefer Haribo gummy in general, but Albanese’s soft, almost juicy texture and strong fruit flavors work perfectly with chocolate.
  • Sour cherry coke bottles. So ridiculously good. I’m not big on the regular coke bottles, sour or not, but I could eat the sour cherry ones by the pound.

What do you get when you throw good sense to the wind and spend way too much on “gourmet” candy?
