Welcome To The Bitchery

So my friend is moving in with me next month! YAAAY! (I am by myself this month which is nice in terms of my ability to reorganize my shit and be productive, but which is also boring and blehh.) She is bringing her cat that she’s had for a while now and loves more than life itself, so I will be cohabiting long term with a cat for the first time in my life! Wooo!

So this isn’t really a question about general cat stuff bc my future roommate knows her stuff, but more about how people in teeny tiny apartments manage having a pet (my future roommate currently lives in her childhood house and has never lived in a small place). Idk about square footage, but my apartment has one bedroom, one bathroom, a living room, and a little tiny kitchen—it’s small. And we can’t figure out where we’re going to put the litter box!

Also the heating and air in my apartment is through these two wall units that have mesh screens in them to catch dust, but in general don’t really filter the way a nice filter in a central air system can (as far as I can tell anyway) so I have been pondering buying an air purifier ever since I moved in (I’ve put it off due to price). My apartment just seems to get stuffy in a way my previous places never have. I live in a super humid climate (opening windows = a terrible idea) and I have previously been torn between an air purifier and a dehumidifier (or a combo hopefully?) but now I am wondering if I should get something specifically for cat hair/dander/smell. I am not allergic but I spend time with people who are and I don’t want to be carrying too much nastiness with me every time I leave the apartment either.

What do small apartment pet owners do?

Edit: the kitchen and bathroom are tiled, the rest of the flooring is hardwood with no rugs. I don’t like carpet because it’s harder to clean IMO and I like being able to mop the floor.
