One of the benefits of living in SoCal is that i have friends who love to share their homemade tamales with me. I had no idea this tradition existed until i moved south. It’s not really celebrated in extreme northern CA. But i love being a guest in this tradition just the same. Here’s a cute story about it:

When i lived in Asia my students found the concept of Santa to be really weird and for my husband Christmas was just a long holiday, because his parents are Chinese Buddhists. *shrug*

Oh and we’re an open presents on Christmas morning family and i didn’t go to a Christmas eve service until i was an adult. Because my family wasn’t very religious.
