We haven’t had one of these for a while, and I had to have this conversation a lot recently. What are the common things about your job(s) that most people get wrong?

I build scenery for Broadway, commercials, movies, corporate events, The Mouse, etcetera. I am not a frustrated actor, just waiting for my chance to get up on stage. I hate acting. No one I work with wants to be onstage unless it is an actual actor. I also do not design it. That is what designers are for. I am handed a set of drawings (by the draftsperson) and told to make it look like that. 95% of the time I don’t meet the designer. 100% of the time I don’t meet the director. Unless I am on site installing the scenery, and then I have to meet with the designer and occasionally the director. The only reason I meet actors are when I am covering a run crew track.

Also, I can’t get you free tickets to Hamilton.

Your turn!
