Adrian Bayley, who raped and murdered journalist Jill Meagher, has received a sentence of life imprisonment, non-parole period 35 years.

And here's a link to an interesting op-ed piece addressing the way the legal system treated Bayley for his previous crimes (i.e. not that harshly considering he was a repeated sex offender and had actually been ON PAROLE for the rape of five sex workers when he murdered Meagher) and the way the media framed the crime compared to similar stories where the victim shared Meagher's horrible and untimely fate but their backgrounds made them less "tabloid friendly".
