Welcome To The Bitchery

This week I thought "you know, I would really love some real potatoes." But this is not possible, because Boyrax has such weird ideas about food that aren't really pickiness, but hinder my cooking delicious delicious things.

Weird Idea #1: Every meal has meat in it. This is a problem when I want to make potato meals - potato soup is delicious, but no meat. Roasted potatoes are delicious, but no meat. I found a scalloped potato recipe that I love, but he vetoed the creamy, cheesy, carby goodness because no meat. And also another reason which brings me to point 2...

Weird Idea #2: Side dishes can never be main dishes. This is the other reason that he vetoed the delicious scalloped potatoes. Also why I can't make fried zucchini patties as a meal even though they're amazing and I love them, because they're sides and not main and never the twain shall meet.

Weird Idea #3: You can only have breakfast food at breakfast time. This one doesn't bite me in the ass too much because when I have time to make breakfast he's usually not up till 2-3PM anyway, but he regularly teases me for saying I had leftover chicken tetrazzini or whatever for breakfast because it's not breakfast food. Strangely, breakfast food can be a real dinner - but only if you declare it breakfast for dinner.

Then we come to the actual pickiness. Here are some of the things that he has told me he won't eat or doesn't like, usually after I make a meal with it in there and he eats two bites:

  • Celery
  • Buffalo Chicken flavor
  • Soup without meat
  • Fish, excepting salmon and swordfish
  • All other seafood
  • Sushi
  • Pasta with a small amount of sauce
  • Anything with a strong taste of mayonnaise
  • Anything with a strong taste of eggs
  • Questionably sauerkraut

There are probably more that I can't come up with. I am a sad panda.

Note: I don't cook things that only I would like because I'm lazy and I'm not going to go through the effort of cooking an entire meal just for myself. I'm also not going to just tell him to eat what I make because that's mean and I don't want to be mean to him, he can't help his pickiness and he's getting better (he used to dislike all pork products except bacon and now he's fine with all of them!). I just want to rant and maybe crowdsource some good potato-related recipes that fit those requirements.

ETA: I gave up on the potato plan and went back to picking a meat and making meals around it. Now I have 4 meals decided on! Taco pizza, creamy chicken with fire-roasted corn, pork enchiladas, and southwestern chicken/pork panini!
