Please help assuage my guilt.

So my boss's boss, who I really like, is retiring today and there was an email that went out asking everyone to chip in money for a gift. I didn't (and don't) have the money to contribute because I'm going through some personal stuff that is costing me nearly half my income. This isn't the first time I haven't gone in on a gift for a coworker either, they have a special way of hitting me up for money when I have none.

Do you think this reflects badly on me as a coworker? I feel like kind of a jerk for not chipping in, but at the same time she's my boss's boss and obviously makes more than me.

I just don't have the resources to pump money back into my job :/
