My submission for the International Medieval Congress at WMU (known to Medievalists as "Kalamazoo"; probably known to WMU students as "that week where the campus is full of vestmented Catholic clergy and drunk tweed-wearers") was not accepted this year, which was a bummer, because I thought I had a good shot at that panel, and I was looking forward to bringing the PhDad "brand" back to Kalamazoo for a second year. But there is a two stage process for Kalamazoo: if your paper is rejected by a specific panel, it's passed on to a pool for general submissions. I might still get picked. That will be both good news (because Kalamazoo) and bad (because Kalamazoo is expensive to get to [hey, that rhymes!]). Last year, there were professional development funds that paid for my plane ticket, but I don't think they'll be there this year. So I've thought about using GoFundMe, but I've had a couple of questions: 1) Do you think this sort of thing will seem obnoxious to my Fb friends? I don't want to annoy them or have them roll their eyes at the patheticness of my request. 2) If it happens, I'd love to ask you guys to chip in. I'm not worried about offending you because I hate you all you are all jerks I know you guys have all like, been there, man. But there's no way to do that without doxxing myself, and I'm not sure I'm ready to do that. Any advice?
