The sad thing is, I really really like Bust and want to believe that a magazine — and particularly a fun, feminist magazine — can survive the switch to digital and the death of the print industry.

But if you’ll allow me to rant for a second, I am so fucking mad at them right now I can hardly think straight.

The long and the short of it is that I originally had a one-year subscription. I literally never had problems with it. I paid, they arrived. I was happy.

Then I renewed my subscription back in May, about a month before I moved to my new apartment. I updated my credit card details *and* included my new address in a separate e-mail to them.

I got a quick note from the company saying that they’d received the new information. Because Bust publishes bi-monthly, I didn’t think much of not receiving it at the new address for a while.

...Until I noticed that the new issue was live online (this was the one for August/September) and I still didn’t have it.

Well, I live in Canada, so maybe it was just late, I figured. I waited out almost the entire month.

Then I contacted them in late August, when I should’ve received the newest issue at least two weeks prior.

They confirmed that my address had not actually been updated, although they did have the new address on file (which...?) and promised that it was now entered correctly into the system.

No compensation was offered. I was told I should go back to my old address to pick up the last issue, which is bullshit, but I figured, eh, fuck it — still cheaper than the price at the newsstands (and I can’t get it at the newsstands in Vancouver anyway).

Fast-forward to late October.

Still no magazine.

I e-mail them again to ask what’s going on. They tell me that there was a “glitch” in the system and that, once again, they didn’t update the address and yet another magazine went to my old address, which I could “pick up” at my leisure.

By this point, I gently (I work in CS, so I promise you it was gentle) argued that no, they needed to compensate me for the 2 I’d missed as a result of their error, or they needed to re-send the issues.

They grudgingly obliged by extending my subscription to cover those two issues for next year — and offered to re-send October/November as compensation and that I could expect it to arrive in 2 weeks (so around November 12th).

Today is December 3rd.

Still nothing.

I e-mailed them — AGAIN — and got no response after a week. So I posted on their Facebook page just asking why I hadn’t been contacted about my third missing issue, and within literally 20 minutes got a really impatient and dismissive response saying that they were busy because of the holiday (which didn’t make sense because my original e-mail had been 2 days before Thanksgiving and they still hadn’t responded as of yesterday), and that if I wanted to be refunded and have my subscription cancelled I could, but otherwise I would definitely get the *next* issue.

No explanation for why a third magazine hadn’t shown up at my address.

Then I contacted the Facebook team, who confirmed that I also should’ve had December/January by now and they had no explanation as to why it hadn’t arrived either.

So now I don’t know what to do.

I feel like I’m about to fly off the handle here, and I really don’t want to be rude or attack anyone, but seriously what the fuck.

Any advice on how to handle this without being one of “those” customers? Am I over-reacting?
