A high school in Pennsylvania assigned homework to students that included reference to sexual abuse.

The class was apparently studying the life of Maya Angelou, and the teacher thought that the author’s sexual abuse would make a great framing for a math question.

I don’t think that this should have been hidden from the teens, or that they weren’t mature enough to handle it, but who thought it was a good idea to just tritely insert it into a question like that that doesn’t reflect the gravity of the subject in any way?

To make matters worse,

“A subsequent question in the same homework asked about a single mother who is trying to support her son by working as a pimp and a prostitute.”
