Bloomberg Business has a graph on the deadliest jobs in the US (found it through boing boing). Interestingly, police are #14 on the list, below taxi drivers.
Also interesting; garbage workers are #7 on list. They are FOUR times more likely to be killed on the job than firefighters. I find this ironic, because in Toronto, we’ve had 2 outside worker strikes, which have been characterized as “garbage strikes”, and because many people begrudge them making a decent wage; “They’re unskilled!”, “They make more money than I do with a graduate degree!”. Well, the job is obviously risky. More risky than most people realize.
