Firstly, thank you all for your suggestions on how to deal with negative thoughts. I am making a conscious effort to focus on a) recognizing what I do that is positive and b) contradicting the negative thoughts (example: long weekend made me really tired, so I said to myself “derby is going to be rough tonight” and then followed it with “nope, you’ll do fine.”).
Secondly, if anyone is near Rawlins, WY and wants to see a crazy GTer skate, I’m skating in a bout against their local team on June 6th at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
Lastly, I feel like things are finally starting to click with derby. Despite walking 14 miles over the course of the weekend for Denver Comic Con, I was mostly able to keep up with the pack. I only fell once, and I held my own against some pretty hard hits. I’m also starting to get more comfortable with backwards blocking. It’s a nice feeling to have with one more practice remaining before the bout.
