I don’t know how many sculptural artists we have, but this project is outside of my ability and I thought I would share.
The city of Dallas and the Oak Cliff Foundation have completed raising money for a sculpture to celebrate Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan and their contributions to music in Kiest Park. They are accepting proposals for the piece of art. All the details are here. The deadline is January 15th.
More information about the project can be found here. This web site is hosted by Kirby Warnock. Kirby Warnock made a little documentary called “When Dallas Rocked” which focuses on music produced and played in Dallas from the 50’s to the 70’s. I still have it on my DVR from when it played on our local PBS station last year. I think the man is made of passion projects.
My husband gre up in Oak Cliff. His grandmother knew the Vaughan brother’s mother. I think I’ve shared the story about when my husband met her. (She was sweet and full of empathy.)
