Just received an alert on my phone from the AP:

Breaking (4:59PM EDT) Federal health officials confirm first Ebola case diagnosed in the United States

Hopefully there will be more information available soon.

Update: The case is in Dallas. The patient is being kept in isolation and CDC protocols are being followed. Now I'm just waiting for somebody to blame illegal immigrants.

Update 2: The patient was admitted the the hospital yesterday and immediately placed in isolation when Ebola was suspected. The CDC insists that normal hospital isolation procedures are capable of caring for a patient with the disease and stopping the spread. So far it seems like all infectious disease protocols were followed correctly and there is no danger to the general public.

Ebola is only transmitted through close contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person who is showing symptoms. The simple fact that US hospitals have clean water, sanitation, and virtually unlimited access to gloves and masks means that the spread of the disease in this country is highly unlikely.
