We’ve helped two people in the last few weeks. One member, who would like to remain anonymous, had their car impounded while out of town and we sent them $150 to help out with the unexpected expense. And our own kayleefryerocks has been going through a tough time - she has a new baby and her husband just lost her job - so we helped her out by paying a past-due chunk of her power bill. We’ve got at least one more request sitting in our inbox, so if you guys have the ability, please donate!
Next order of business: we’ve had one person on the board inform me that they no longer have the time to continue to help out with the board. She also was in charge of our website, so I’ll be trying to get that back up and running. If any of you guys would be interested in being a part of the board, please email the fund! We need at least one new member.
Thank you all again for your generosity and kindness. I need to do a tally of the number of people we’ve helped and the amount of money we’ve raised, but I know it’s more than 20 and we’ve raised more than $8000 since the fund’s inception, and that would not be possible without you. You guys are the best!
The GroupThink Emergency Fund was created in October 2013. It was first inspired when longtime member KillerMartinis made an offhanded comment about her electricity being turned off. I (greenheart) started a call for GT members to donate $5 a person to help out, and within 3 hours we’d collected 6 times the amount of the power bill. With the remainder, GT opted to create an emergency fund to help out its members in times of need.
To contribute to the fund, visit our GoFundMe page or send any donation amount through PayPal to firstname.lastname@example.org. To view the guidelines for requesting and receiving aid, see the original post here. To request assistance, please email us at email@example.com.
