Experience with going from full time to part time after the birth of a child

Anybody have any experience with telling their employer they want to come back part time after their FMLA time ends when the have a kid or anyone work in HR? A little background on my company is that it's a large utility (around 3K employees, 25 in my department) that's always been fairly family friendly and accommodating about work life balance.

So far my plan is to take the full 12 weeks of FMLA but 3 months seems so soon to have to leave my kid full time. Mr. Haa and I both work demanding, salaried jobs that have us working 44+ hours at least a week. I don't see that changing after Baby Haa gets here. I would really like to go back to work 3 days a week for at least 3 months after my FMLA time ends. I know a girl my age who had a kid 18 months ago and after her FMLA was up she came back part time and as far as I know doesn't plan on going back to full time ever. Different departments but same type of job (she's in accounting, I'm in tax). I have a meeting with my HR representative tomorrow to see if this is even a possibility but I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this themselves. Thanks!
