He’s not a normal person (and you know who I’m talking about). He’s a malignant narcissist in a skin suit. Appeal to GT, BT, & TSB experts for guidance, bc I don’t think “just walk away” will do it for a whole country till we can arrange for him to be dragged out of there.
So the Finnish President was all of us today
And Vladimir thought it was funny (and gave us occasion to wonder if even more Greedy Oligarchic Parasites need to be brought up on charges at some point)
But there are real world consequences to having someone in a position of such power who has never had to deal with consequences himself, and who says “I never did anything wrong” and who literally does not understand it when someone says “Yes, you have – and more than that, you’re going to have to deal with consequences as a result for the first time in your life.”
And / but I’m not sure the MSM or the Congressional leaders on whom we depend, with the possible exception of the Progressive Caucus, really know how to handle something like this either … as they demonstrate every intention of continuing to treat him like a normal person (at least the outer edge) who is acting in a normal way (again, the outer edge of “within normal limits”) in a normal situation (no).
That is not what this is.
I’ve spent time the past few days talking with people who also see the extent to which this kind of sociopathy and predation have been normalized in our culture over a longer period of time, where “leadership” is confused with “unfettered greed” + “psychopathy” to the point where some 70 0r 75% of the Fortune 100 and 500 Senior and Executive Vice Presidents in the country could arguably be diagnosed as sociopaths (if they ever bothered to take themselves to therapy which of course they would never do).
There’s no way that level of near-universal permeation in a capitalist culture hasn’t contributed to our mainstream media’s and our leaderships’ tendency to normalize the most outrageous and abusive behavior … and it was so clear when Senator Harris suggested last night on Lawrence that Congressman Pompeo might need to have a word with Secretary Pompeo when the former subjected the then Secretary of State to 11 hours of Benghazi hearings (!!) and now he’s whining about trying to forbid his own staff from doing their Constitutional duty by complying with Congressional investigations.
Pompeo. Dude. I don’t care where you went to military college or where you went to law school – that level of contempt for equality of process is unacceptable and just because you were raised to be a bully and enabled the majority of your professional life, that still doesn’t excuse your gross and egregious abuses of power and process and you’re going to have to adjust your trajectory and suckt it up with the quickness.
What do we do?
(Don’t get me started on the “Barr is an institutionalist” bleating from those whom we generally trust and respect when they had to have known as well as we know that the first time Barr interfered with an official investigation and/or misrepresented an official DOJ report was the first time he was USAG, for GHWB.
Just … don’t get me started on that.)
We can remember in the meantime, though, both that Prescott Bush was a Nazi collaborator AND that President Carter, whose birthday was yesterday
tried his best to warn then-eligible voters not to get so many greedstars in their eyes that they went sashaying down that path with Reagan.
(who, let it be remembered, gave us Murdoch, who financially empowered Roger Ailes to give us Fox “News”.)
I think it’s interesting to note which voices have just gone ahead and come out and said the current #WhiteHouseOccupant is in fact an #IllegitimatePOTUS
Maybe it’s just left to us to follow the best examples as opposed to the worse ones, now that we have some clear and searing examples of how, when pushed to its sadly logical extreme, the worse ones turn out.
And one more thing
