Did you know that the female to male ratio for fibro is 7:1 ?

Fibromyalgia is a disorder of unknown etiology characterized by widespread pain, abnormal pain processing, sleep disturbance, fatigue and often psychological distress.

  • Working adults with fibromyalgia average almost 17 days of missed work per year compared to 6 days for persons without fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia has been associated with lower levels of health-related quality-of-life and more work productively loss.

I was diagnosed with fibro when i was 16, i was the youngest patient my specialist had met. When i was younger i would have these "growing pains" where my knees would ache, my elbows had sharp pains and i had migraines. My mom would massage my knees and tell me that it hurt because my legs were growing! Well if that was the case, i would be 8ft tall right now. Because i have a huge family history of rheumatoid arthritis my mom decided it was time for me to see a specialist. They did a million tests and everything came back normal, i felt defeated. I would wonder if it was all in my head, that i was imagining the pain. Finally my doctor told my mom that i had fibromyalgia (something my mom would find out 3 years later that she also has) So what was the cure? Physical goddamn therapy. It never helped me, the only thing that helped was water therapy. I would cry and cry during the regular PT because it hurt so bad. Eventually i stopped the PT. I went through years of trying different anti-inflammatory drugs that did little to help. Now i have an amazing doctor that believes that fibromyalgia is a real thing (i swear some doctors don't think it exists) and she has been a great help in containing my pain. I am on lyrica and tramadol. I suggest that anyone with fibro try these two medicines together, as they have done so much for me.

Do you have fibro? Did you have to deal with years of unexplained pain, fatigue and depression? (Depression pretty much goes hand in hand with having fibro) Did you have crappy doctors basically telling you it was all in your head? I would like to hear your stories here! Do you have great medicine/diet or PT that has worked for you? I think some people on GT that have depression might have fibromyalgia and not even know it.
