Wow. Today was an awesome day at the food pantry (except for no bread). Not only did we get a ton of stuff, we were also in and out in less than 10 minutes, which is practically unheard of. I also feel kind of guilty, since we got the last pre-packed boxes :/ but oh, well, the last one has to go to someone, right? So, here's what we got...
1 24 pack Eggo waffles
1 4 pack of croissants (already devoured!)
1 4 pack butter rum muffins
2 pizzas labeled "charitable pizza" which is a new flavour... (1 is spinach, mushroom and... sausage? And the other looks like it's got chicken and onions so, maybe BBQ? No labels.)
3 single serve Greek yogurts
3 single serve cartons of milk
1 bunch kale
1 5 pack of sausages? Hotdogs? (Unlabeled)
2 4 packs of 1/4 pound burgers
2 single (samples?) packets of Pillsbury frozen maple waffles
4 boxes Kraft Mac n Cheese
1 big bag of Froot Loops cereal
1 big bag of Scooby Bones cereal (?)
1 Valentine's Day cake mix
1 bag mixed candy corn and peanuts
2 jars Ragu Double Cheddar cheese sauce
2 cans diced tomatoes with spicy red peppers
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can chicken noodle soup
4 boxes creamy shells n cheese
2 boxes apple cinnamon oatmeal packets
3 boxes jello (grape, peach, and orange)
2 jars creamy peanut butter
1 jug laundry detergent (yay!)
1 bottle dish soap
4 rolls toilet paper
A handful of sample packets of Crest toothpaste
That's what we got. Pretty fair amount of stuff. Sadly, about the only thing I can give the little kids is the oatmeal, jello, peanut butter, hamburgers, and the candy corn. All the rest has either gluten or dairy in it (or is unlabeled, so I don't dare).
We did end up getting food stamps this month, but we got just over $500. Which sounds huge, but really isn't. (We have to turn in the last 30 days paycheck stubs when we re-certify, which had holiday pay and some overtime. They count that as "regular income", even though it's a one time payment. Hence the reduced amount.) This month and next month are going to be really tight. Husband's job is making up for paying overtime and holiday pay by cutting hours, so he's got barely 32 hours/week for the next couple of weeks.
Oh, well, c'est la vie and all that. I did get to go to the library today, so we got a huge stack of books and movies and video games, so yay for that!
