Welcome To The Bitchery

I finally had the time and a working car on the right day, so we hit the food pantry this afternoon. It was kind of crazy there today, but they were clearing out the freezers again (I have good timing!) so I got like, 5 different meats. Which is awesome, because I need the iron. I just went shopping a couple days ago, so the shelves weren’t bare, but it’s 3 weeks til the next food pantry day and I’ve got $100 for the rest of the month, so I figured I’d probably better go while I had the chance!

The pantry is open for 2 hours on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, but won’t be open on the 2nd (not sure why). We’re a family of 6 (well, 9, but 3 live in a separate apartment), so this is what we got:

1 bag 6 sandwich rolls

1 bag hot dog buns

1 bag hamburger buns

1 loaf whole wheat bread

1 loaf sourdough bread

1 whole apple pie

1 box of 4 giant vanilla muffins

1 giant bag generic frosted flakes

2 ziploc baggies of sugar cookies shaped like a nutcracker (? ok...)

4 5-packs of sweet Italian turkey sausages, frozen (plus my neighbour gave me 2 more!)


1 pound ground turkey, frozen

1 pound pork chops, frozen

2 pounds ground beef

1 12-pack drumsticks, frozen

2 boxes frozen Eggo Nutrigrain waffles

2 Healthy Choice frozen meals - rosemary chicken and pasta

3 frozen pizzas - 1 pepperoni and sausage, 1 ham, sausage and pepperoni, and 1 smaller one with spinach, artichokes, tomato, and onion and alfredo sauce

6 “Aussie style” strawberry yogurts

1 big tub plain yogurt

2 bags salad

1 bag s’mores flavoured candy corn (? odd...)

1 4-pack sugar free jello cups

2 giant (1L!) jars of Double Fruit strawberry preserves

3 single serve cups of Campbell’s Slow Cooker creamy broccoli cheddar soup

2 boxes PastaRoni - 1 chicken flavour, and 1 shells and white cheddar

2 boxes rigatoni pasta

1 box Swanson Creamstarter (? I guess for pasta?)

2 boxes assorted oatmeal packets

2 cans generic EZ cheez - American and Cheddar flavours

2 cans sliced carrots

2 small cans tuna

2 cans Jumex nectar - mango and peach

a handful of assorted mini-Clif bars and granola bars

a handful of single-serve marinara cups

The pizzas were getting soggy by the time I got home and unpacked everything, so I threw those in the oven for dinner. 2 were really good, the veggie one was “eh”. I made GF/DF pizzas for the little guys. The muffins have already nearly vanished (I hid mine!) as have the Clif bars, the rolls and buns are in the freezer, and the S’mores candy corn is... weird, but ok.


All around, a lot of good stuff this time!
