Or medical advice. I don't know what to do anymore. I've been sick since Monday or Sunday. I'm diabetic (type 1), so when I noticed consistently high blood glucose on Tuesday, I tested for ketones in my urine and sure enough, they were there. By Tuesday night, my urine was clear from ketones, so I went to sleep, but woke up around 3 am with a hypoglycemia. I treated it and tried to go back to sleep. No sleep. Then, when I finally got up five or so hours later, I had ketones again. The same thing repeated on Wednesday. Feel like crap throughout the day, clear ketones out of system, go to bed, wake up with hypo, eat (I even took a bit of insulin at this point), try to go to sleep, wake up with ketones again.
I emailed my endocrinology doctor this morning (it's Thursday morning here), but I don't think I'll hear back from her until it's morning on her side of the world, so a good 10 or 12 hours. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and tell my school I need to see a doctor. I'm kind of scared of going to the doctor here, because everything has to be relayed to me second-hand in English. I've always been very in charge of my own care and I feel like a big, dumb baby for not being able to go to the doctor by myself. Plus, the other English teacher is in the hospital right now, because his wife is having a baby, so we're already stretched really thin. There are only three of us total.
I don't know what I need. I've only dealt with ketones three or four times in 19 years of having diabetes and this is definitely the longest lasting bout. If I don't go to the doctor today, I'm going to have to wake up every two hours to test tonight, which isn't fun, but I have no other ideas.
