Let me preface this by saying I like my job. Working at this bar is the best non work-study job I've ever had. That being said, their implicit policies surrounding break are bullshit.

I used to work 9 hour shifts on my feet without a break. Sometimes I wouldn't have time to eat. Now I work 8 hr shifts with a break, but it's something I have to fight for and seriously protect. There's this culture implying that one is not a team player for taking a break. I consistently am forced to break 2 hrs before my shift is over -at best- and at worst I have to work for seven and a half hours then sit on my ass for 30 min before I go home. This not only makes no sense, it's illegal and takes a toll on my body and my customer service. I once got in trouble for taking my break when the owner thought the bar was too busy, and was told to hop back on and off my break accordingly, which is also illegal.

Today I had to hop back on and off during my break because we are understaffed even more that usual (we are allllways understaffed because they are too cheap to hire more people).

I know this place is making money hand over fist, so why don't they put some of that money into hiring (and renovation and new bar equipment)? It would make everyones life (including the customer's) much easier, and make us more money in the long run.
