Getting Job Search Ready

I’m starting to think seriously about looking for a new job. Between being increasingly bored with the day to day things I have to do at my current job and salary freezes on already too low salaries it feels like time.

There’s a project I’m on that I actually care about that goes through December and then I go to Vietnam for two and a half weeks in February, which feels like something I don’t want to spring on a new employer. So my goal is to start applying in early February, with the hope that I’ll get a few interviews in March.

Since I know I want to leave but won’t start the search for a few months, any ideas or tips about what I could be doing from now until then to boost my chances of getting interviews? Obviously I’ll update and improve my resume, but it feels like there must be things I can do besides that... I just don’t know what those things are.
