A plea for cute gifs, funny stories, anything you think might keep me movin' and groovin.'
Y'all, remember last week when I was helping a student who's being stalked? Well, after she and I talked for a bit, she decided to talk to the Dean of Student Services and she wanted me to go with her.
I set it up with her and the dean's office and today we spent 2.5 - 3 hours meeting with the dean, the director, campus security, and our local police department. It was good—she left with a bunch more resources, a firm plan in place, and feeling more empowered (YAY!).
But y'all? It was straight up exhausting. I felt like I had to mediate between the student and everyone else as it seemed they weren't taking it as seriously as they should have and she was so (understandably) flustered from the telling and the retelling that she kept forgetting certain important details. They thought she was blowing things out of proportion to start with, she got frustrated and clammed up and I was left in the middle to make sense of the whole thing for everyone. Finally, after a lot of work, we all got on the same page.
By the time we were done, I couldn't bring myself to do much of anything—the whole thing was depressing and tiring. I'm glad she got some more support, I'm glad I could be there to help but it was incredibly draining. It's been about 12 hours since the start of the meeting and I'm still processing.
So my grading for tomorrow is being put off. I was a little worried about, What am I going to tell my students about why their papers aren't graded? Then I decided, I'm just going to tell them what happened—a student was in trouble, I helped, it took a long time, and you'd want me to do the same for you.
Anyway, now I come to you, GT, in the hopes that you have something funny or adorable to share. Help me not feel like this anymore, please:
