I gotta say, it was a lot of fun working as a developer in America. It was also fun being able to use the internet freely without fast lanes.
“For decades before 2015, we had a free and open Internet,” the chairman said in a speech at the Newseum in Washington co-hosted by FreedomWorks, a limited-government group. “Indeed, the free and open Internet developed and flourished under light-touch regulation. We were not living in some digital dystopia before the partisan imposition of a massive plan hatched in Washington saved all of us.”
All of this is insane bullshit. The fact is they have better tools now than they did a couple years ago. So a lot of that ‘dystopian’ control is possible, but only recently.
“We applaud FCC Chairman Pai’s initiative to remove this stifling regulatory cloud over the internet,” AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement. “Businesses large and small will have a clearer path to invest more in our nation’s broadband infrastructure under Chairman Pai’s leadership.”
I’m screaming. This PoS is suger-coating what essentially means “small businesses will now have to pay us so customers can access their site.” And “invest more in our nation’s broadband infrastructure” - HA. ISPs don’t do shit unless they’re forced to. They all came out against Google Fiber, and only after that did they start laying cable. And they didn’t even do THAT much. The only thing businesses will be “investing” in here is ISP CEO and board member bonuses.
