Guys, I owe you a huge apology. My life got crazy and I should have written this post like a month ago.
But anyways. Over the summer, we helped 2 people! Both of them would like to remain anonymous, but both are valued and long-term members of GT. One person had a particularly difficult month and wasn't able to make rent, and another person's husband was let go from his job suddenly, so in both cases we stepped in and donated a few hundred dollars to help make rent payments.
The GT Emergency Fund is still up and running, and although we need to update the website, we are still helping anyone we can.
The GroupThink Emergency Fund was created in October 2013. It was first inspired when longtime member KillerMartinis made an offhanded comment about her electricity being turned off. I (greenheart) started a call for GT members to donate $5 a person to help out, and within 3 hours we'd collected 6 times the amount of the power bill. With the remainder, GT opted to create an emergency fund to help out its members in times of need.
