Happy Friday, folks!
Just wanted to take a moment to give you a bit of awesome news to help end your week on a high note...
MY SISTER'S CLASSROOM PROJECT GOT FULLY FUNDED!!!
The final donation came in at the very end of her birthday weekend (I got a really excited phone call at about 3:00 AM Tuesday and couldn't even be mad). She went to school the next morning and gave her class an essay prompt: "If you could change something about your classroom what would it be?" Nearly all of them said the desks and chairs. Then she got to drop the amazing bombshell that they would soon be getting replaced with brand new ones, better suited to growing Polynesian bodies than 1960s standard-issue government furniture.
According to my sister they were ecstatic - especially the 7th graders who have her class again next year - and in shock that there were people in the world rich enough to give money away to total strangers, much less to them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. In addition to making a real, tangible difference in these kids' lives you have made a big difference in my sister's, who has agreed to stay an extra year past her contract to give those 7th graders a stronger foundation. Apparently comfy chairs go a long way towards getting a room full of 13 year-olds to sit still and learn.
I'm sure she will be reaching out to each of you who donated individually, but in the meantime I just wanted to brighten your day and let you know how grateful I am to have such caring internet friends.
