Add your own! And talk about whatever.

I saw some of the Liffey Swim this afternoon on the way to the National Gallery. Fair play to the swimmers, but I hope their skin didn’t dissolve or anything! (I’m exaggerating, but the Liffey is not water I’d really want to immerse myself in. I’m sure it’s much cleaner than it was last century, but it’s not exactly pristine. Plus, a friend went kayaking further upriver several years back and his t-shirt got soaked. He didn’t wash it immediately, and something ate holes in it!) In other news, the National Gallery just opened an exhibition on Käthe Kollwitz, who is an artist I was not familiar with and now think everyone should know. Amazing work!

Käthe Kollwitz, The Volunteers (1923)

(Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that because the attempt at “translating” ended up more like “blue dwelling subject”, but yeah. Knowing very little more than a couple words of Irish and that it’s gramatically VSO not SVO, I still know that the Irish for “a black man” is an fear gorm.)
