I was going to get a trim before I left DC, but I never go around to it and now I've been scowling at my increasingly-split ends on a pretty much daily basis for the last month. And since I never feel like actually going to a salon (or spending the money on one), I grabbed my sewing scissors* and just did it myself while I was waiting for my laundry to finish this morning.
I followed these instructions—I planned on doing it straight across, but my hair is pretty thick and cutting it in one ponytail was not going to happen. I did something more like the V-shaped instructions, and it ended up looking a lot like the U-shape. I took off probably 1/2 an inch to an inch. It's not perfect, but it was free and it took 15-20 minutes. And now the nastiest of my split ends are gone.
At this rate, I'm going to be one of those women in five years. "Oh, I trim my own hair. Sorry, I don't eat meat. Tampons? Let me tell you about my menstrual cup. Yes, I'm a feminist, why do you ask?" (I have no problem with this, actually.)
Also, it was definitely someone on GT who pointed me to those instructions, so thank you mysterious Jezzie!
*Yes, I know I'm not supposed to use them on anything but fabric. Thank you, mom.
