Hair Love - Lovely short (+ OT)

I don’t know if you’ve seen this movie yet but if you haven’t? Here’s a super sweet, warm, lovely, touching little short film.

I really didn’t know anything about the many facets and challenges of black hair before I came to groupthink. Here I found articles about it and just people sharing their experiences and I’ve been fascinated and amazed by it ever since. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have to put so much effort into your hair or having to learn what works for your type of curl, especially in a culture where the emphasis is on totally differently structured hair.

I grew up with a literal hairsalon in my house and I can barely braid my hair into a single braid. I can dye your hair easy, no problem! But don’t even talk to me about hairstyles where I have to braid around my own head or stuff like that. I cannot get that to work. I can get up with unwashed hair and it’ll look basically fine. I have it easy as ****. So I’m just in awe of the skill level that comes with taking care of and styling it.
And I’m just in awe of it in general because it can look so many amazing ways (as someone who loves to draw, the sheer options are so inspiring to me!)

I’ve come to learn that there are many layers to this, not just on the level of beauty but of identity and heritage and I’m sure much more that I can’t think of right now and I’ll learn so much more still. Thanks guys for teaching me things about things that I didn’t even know I didn’t know about! (This clip also reminded me of the bit in Greys Anatomy where Derek doesn’t know how to style their daughter’s hair and Baily sees that little girl and is just all ‘what did you do to this child’ hehehe)

Also, what the heck is with me this week? I was just bawling the entire length of this short. The. Whole. Thing. Through. 🤦‍♀️

How are you all doing? :)
OT awaaaay
