You know, I've censored myself on Facebook today because, when I mentioned I'd like to see a more diverse cast in the new Star Wars movie, I got some lip from my male friends.
"What? Some of them will be in creature costumes!" (That was to make it okay that there was only one person of color.) And for the lack of women, "What? There will be other characters! I'm sure some of them will be women. This is just the main group!" Right. Just my point, asshat.
You know, we are half of the population of the freaking world. And I'm pretty sure that both women and people of color go to the effing movies. I'm tired of being underserved, but it amazes me the most that, if I say it's not right and needs to change, I get a lot of defensive blowback from men who should know better. UGH.
I HAVE MONEY TO SPEND ON MOVIES. WHY IS MY MONEY NOT AS GOOD?
That's what I want to know.
What the fuck, fellow white people who are geeks. Y'all are pissing me off today.
Edited to add: I know it's not as bad for me. I'm white. I'm just surprised by the people with brains that are doing this same fucking thing. Shame on me for not always seeing it, frankly.
