Joy oh joy! CapriciaMAN and I are going to Scotland from the end of May to the beginning of June. We have already booked our flights to Edinburgh and are going to rent a car to drive around the countryside (so gorgeous!). Our plan is to tool around at a relaxed pace and stop at B&Bs (I very, very much dislike camping) for the night. I cannot wait to go, I've been wanting to go to Scotland for YEARS and this is a dream come true. :D

Our original plan was to mostly stick to the Lowlands and do a roundabout trip following the east coast via Aberdeen (my dad knows people where I guess we could stay but it is not a must), Inverness, Fort William, Glasgow and back to Edinburgh. However, most people we talked to suggest that this was not as interesting as going across the Highlands etc. Hivemind, I need you help! Any do-able Highland/Scotland in general recs? We have got 14 days (the first two we are probably going to spend in Edinburgh) and we were planning to go on daily walks/gentle hikes to enjoy the countryside (but no mountain-climbing) as well as check out historical places and castles. I am open for everything!

So far, I have come up with this:

  • Eilean Donan
  • Glen Coe/Hidden Valley/drive along the scenic A82 (a friend's rec, she and her husband went last year.. they are experienced hikers though and we are not)
  • Fish & chips in Oban

Any special spots? Pics! Scotland thoughts! Specific recommendations for cafés, pubs or B&B places are also highly encouraged. :)

EDIT
Wow, thank you so much for all the helpful and thoughtful responses! You guys have suggested so many places and given me some great ideas, I am giddy at the thought of all the things we are going to see. GT IS THE BEST. :D
