How are you spending the longest day of the year? I’m shortly heading over to have a solstice celebration with my witchy type friends because as weird as it seems, this is a long standing religious holiday for many people! Is anyone out there jumping over bonfires or just in general enjoying the extra minutes of your day?
As a fun fact, today is called both Midsummer and the first day of summer, which seems contradictory, but it is that way because Midsummer is originally an Anglo Saxon word (likely from another similar older proto Germanic word) and the Anglo Saxons only had two seasons, not four; Winter and Summer. So for them, June 20th-ish was Midsummer, even though we call the first half of their summer spring and so it seems a bit strange.
(and should we have any Southern Hemisphere friends here today, a very happy Yule to you!)
