I've only ever done the pen and paper style tax filing before, but I've always had my mom beside me explaining it all to me (because she has done the pen and paper style tax filing her entire life - even after things got super complex with marriage and mortgages and 401ks and self-employment. She's amazing). This year I'm on my own and down the wire and I just want it over with.

Mr.TenInch has always used TurboTax but said it is costing him twice as much this year to file with them than it did last year, and I don't really want to spend $60 to file my taxes. I've heard some things about TaxSlayer, but it's not as big as TurboTax, so I don't know how reliable/safe they are. Anyone with good experience, or other good recommendations for free-ish online federal filing?
