For years I was a faithful Olay user. Not the fancy serums and crap, just their basic moisturizer. But now they have changed their formula so the lotion smells like Old Man in Downscale Nursing Home. It’s super unpleasant and also kind of creepy(I feel like the fragrance people would not deliberately develop such a smell for lotions? But then why the fuck not fix it?). I’m finishing out the bottle and then I have to dip my toe into the wide world of moisturizers for the first time in a very long time.
With just the Olay my skin was too dry. I started using the Trader Joe’s Hyaluronic Acid serum and that seems to be making things better. I’d love any recommendations for a cheap basic moisturizer that doesn’t smell gross (without sunscreen!). Ideally something that costs maybe up to $20 for a bottle and lasts for a month to 2 months at a time. I’d also love to hear any serum ideas - favorites from the Ordinary etc.
My skin is, well let’s say challenged. I have rosacea, and some recurring zits that pop up every time I get my period. I am also allergic/sensitive to: gold, the sun, most sunscreen (thanks universe!), and a couple chemical ingredients with 47 character long names. About 3 years ago I had a year-long struggle with horrible dermatitis that required prescription strength creams and cleansers to treat and I’ve been gun shy since then because I haven’t wanted to trigger another round of that. (When it was at it’s worst I looked like I’d just finished running a marathon while simultaneously recovering from a bad sun burn so my face was this red, greasy, flaky, peeling mass that occasionally oozed. It was...not cute.)

(I was going to post a gif of the face melting scene from Indiana Jones, but that’s still too gross for me to watch! MY sibling on the other hand used to rewind and replay that scene over and over and cackle with glee.)
