My boyfriend and I are having some relatively new couple friends over for dinner this weekend.

It'll be fairly informal because we have a tiny apartment, and the current seating arrangement is basically wherever you can find a level surface and a seat. I'm going to do two homemade pizzas (one slow cooked bbq pulled chicken, one homemade ricotta/potatoes/leeks), but I need ideas for what else to serve. I was thinking a side salad, some sort of appetizer for when they get here, and a dessert.

Thoughts? The only parameters are that I need to be able to cook/assemble most of it beforehand, and no red meat.

As a reward for your help, I will tell you that I drafted this drunkenly last night and there were several mentions of stealing the new friends' hair to make hair dolls. I thought it was hilarious at the time, which probably speaks to why having new people over for dinner is a rare occurrence.
