Help me not poison people with my eggnog!

My boyfriend and I are hosting a Christmas party at our apartment with all our friends from the school this year, and I announced to everyone, loudly and multiple times, that I would make eggnog from scratch and that all the Chinese assistants had to try some. Well, Christmas is getting close and I'm starting to have second thoughts. I've never even had homemade eggnog, let alone made it. I like this recipe (scroll down), but my boyfriend says it has to be cooked so people don't get salmonella from it. This recipe has cooking instructions that I can probably tweak a little to work with the first recipe, but I'm still not sure.

I'm turning to you GT for advice. What makes for a good homemade eggnog? Do you have any tips for cooking it? Is cooked nog significantly different from raw? Help me, GT, you're my only hope!
