I spent most of tonight feeling really sad about my unemployment and the fact that my boyfriend has not been answering my calls. I have struggled with depression in the past, and the feeling of sinking back into that darkness was really horrible. But then I remembered some techniques that I learned the last time I was in therapy, several years ago. So I wanted to first of all thank everyone who gave me such kind advice in the open thread tonight, and then share this link for anyone who may be able to use it.

It's about different ways to cope with emotions, especially sadness, when they are overwhelming you. A few years ago, when I was in really bad shape my counselor gave me these printouts. I kept them with me for a long time, and they really helped, so I was very glad when I googled them just now and I found them again.


This first bit is a strategy called the Wise Mind ACCEPTS. It is a list of different ways you can distract yourself from your emotional crisis until you are able to deal with it. This second link is a list of ways to self soothe, or make yourself feel better. And oddly enough, I feel better already, even just looking this stuff up to share with you guys.
