In a little less than a month I’m headed to Ireland and Scotland, a trip that will include lots of walking and about 4 days of outdoor walking in the highlands. I’m, as Jack Dawson famously put it:

I don’t have good shoes for this trip, but I don’t want to spend money on hiking boots I’ll definitely never use again.

Can anybody recommend either:

hiking sneakers that are water proof or water resistant but also once my vacation is done usable for just walking around the block or running errands

rain boots that will be comfortable over hours of walking
