What the New York Times published today was a choice. A very, very bad one. They’ve been problematic for 4 years, what with the cloaked effort that got T*ump “elected,” but today takes the cake.
I’ve been a reader & subscriber to The New York Times for over 25 years; paper delivered & eventually an online subscription. They’ve gotten things wrong in the past, but overall, their 100 (+/-) years of reporting with trusted journalists & physical outposts all over the world works in their favor, especially when I’m fighting with someone who thinks the NY Post is journalism.
The journalists do the excellent work. Some are supported by the NYT in stations all over the world. Rare in these or any times. THIS SUPPORT MATTERS!
Today, they printed an “opinion” piece from Tom Cotton, the Republican asshole we all should be most worried about running in 2024, advocating a military response to people peacefully protesting. Language to shoot & kill more Black people. What the ever~loving FUCK?
I won’t link the offending opinion essay, so go find it. I’ll help if you can’t.
NYT journalists are not contractually allowed to voice their opinion or disparage the NYT on social media or anywhere else.
Tonight? They finally said, “Fuck You!”to the NYT. It’s about fucking time, and I’m grateful they surrounded their Black colleagues with real support, even if it’s only words. Words of support can get them fired, but it’s about damn time they chose to not care about that.
Choosing between your life’s dreams & work, or your actual paycheck is not a healthy dichotomy. I respect those who spoke up deeply.
