My father has dementia and lives on the other side of the country. Things have taken a turn towards needing more action, so I’ve been in communication with my relatives out there by phone. My mother (they’re divorced, BTW) previously worked for a family law firm in the town where my dad lived, and an attorney at that law firm drew up his estate planning stuff, including his will, some years ago. Just now, my uncle J called and mentioned that my dad has an “up to date” will that was not written by a lawyer, but was written by *someone*, and notarized. That will names my cousin, C (daughter of uncle M), as executor. No one had previously mentioned anything about this. Does this seem odd to anyone else? Particularly the not having his attorney involved part?
