How do I assess the possible value of a thrift find?

So I thrifted a really cool 1950s (maybe 60s?) evening bag. It's structured and chartreuse and in flawless condition. It's label is some brand I didn't recognize and thus have forgotten (I can look later) for bergdorf goodman. It's probably not worth anything, in which case I will use it as a cool purse. But juuuust in case it is, does anyone know how I find that out? Do I go to a nicer consignment shop?

I live in dc, in case anyone has a specific recommendation.
