Rare? Medium rare? Medium? Well done? I know rare steak is more sophisticated, but I cannot stand anything below medium. I made myself like black coffee back in high school to be cool, but could never manage with the practically raw meat.
If you don't have access to a grill, how do you cook your steak, stove or oven? My boyfriend is currently cooking on the stove, but my mom usually does the oven. I have some chef friends who cook theirs in the oven too at the restaurant and only use the grill to get the marks. Apparently the oven is more consistent.
Does anyone know anything about cuts? I got so confused at the grocery store today, trying to decide between rib-eye, t-bone, strip, and filet. They all looked good to me because I was hungry. While using google to help with my decision, I did find some guy with a blog claiming that "The rib eye steak is the most American, masculine, flavorful steak there is, period." Ick. Apparently meat is not immune to gender politics.
Don't even get me started on the toppings for the baked potatoes we're having on the side. The boyfriend likes bacon bits, but I forgot to buy them because I don't like the flavor. At least I remembered the sour cream.
