So, I've been subbing A LOT lately, and I'm planning on being a full time teacher in the fall.

Does anyone know of a good way to address students that is gender neutral?

At the beginning of class, Good Morning and Good Afternoon is my usual way to grab their attention. During class, or while they are working, I find myself struggling for a way that is not "ladies and gentlemen" to get their attention for announcements, etc.

"Students" and "Class" feels odd to me. I know those are options, but I feel like the students might not take that seriously, or something. I don't know, it's a feeling.

If age helps, these are high schoolers and 7th and 8th graders.

ETA: I knew when I was writing this, someone would mention something that would make me smack my forehead and go "DUH!" The suggestion of "everybody" or "everyone" is one of those.

But hey, if you have other suggestions, keep them coming! =)
